Crete (Heraklion)

align=Heraklion is the biggest town on the island of Crete, and is located in the central region of the island between the prefectures of Lassithi and Rethymno. It is the main port for entry to the island, and is visited by huge numbers of travellers each year.

The prefecture is filled with various towns and villages, all of which have their own immense beauty and charm. The town of Heraklion is the commercial, agricultural, administrative and industrial centre of Crete. It is a very beautiful town, and one with a grat deal of interesting sites and places to visit. As well as the main town, there are many others that are well worth visiting, and which are extremely popular holiday and vacation destinations for visitors to Crete.

In the prefecture of Heraklion, there are a great many interesting sites and places to visit. The archaeological site of Knossos is perhaps one of the most important in Crete, and it is a site that should be visited by all who travel to Heraklion. The remains of the Minoan Palace, as well as many other fascinating ruins and artifacts can be seen here.

The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion is also well worth visiting, where you can see some wonderful displays or objects and artifacts from the Minoan period of Crete.
